LNG Submerged Combustion Vaporiser for Grain LNG in Kent, Great Britain

Cryogenic vaporiser Linde Engineering’s T-Thermal® submerged combustion vaporisers lead the way in low-emissions technologies.

We deliver submerged combustion vaporisers (SCVs) for heating and/or vaporising cryogenic and low-temperature fluids. The technology is primarily used for vaporising LNG in base-load and peak-shaving regasification facilities. However, we also have experience with liquid oxygen (LOX), liquid nitrogen (LIN), ethylene, ammonia and propane.
 
Our SCVs are indirectly fired heat exchangers contained within a single vessel. They are based on the submerged exhaust principle, whereby the burner combustion products are discharged into a water bath, which is then used as the heat transfer medium for vaporising LNG in the tube coil.
 
Typically, our vaporisers utilise a large single burner to minimise emissions and can vaporise up to 200 t/h of LNG. In base-load facilities, vaporisers are the main method of vaporising LNG and are used continuously. However, SCVs can also be installed and operated independently or as a supplement to the burner firing rate with their own supply of warm water.
 
We have delivered over 300 units worldwide since the first installation in 1965. Backed by a wealth of experience in this technology, our SCVs ensure:

  • High thermal efficiency of over 99 percent on average 

  • Uniform temperatures (no build-up of ice on tubes) 

  • Rapid response thanks to fast start-up and shut down without process disruptions 

  • Highest safety levels (no flame impingement on LNG coils) 

  • Fuel savings thanks to high thermal efficiency and easy integration with supplemental heat sources

  • NOX emissions of < 40 ppm
